DCC Publishes “Alternatives to the Carceral State”-Part 7 of the “Documenting and Confronting the Carceral State” Series

Alternatives to the Carceral State,” created by the Community Organizations Team (Gabrielle French, Allie Goodman, Chloe Carlson, Matt Lassiter), is the seventh and final research report in the “Documenting and Confronting the Carceral State” series.  These reports draw from the Carceral State Project’s 2018-2019 Symposium Series by combining video excerpts of the panelists with contextual material.

Part 7, Alternatives to the Carceral State, completes the series by questioning why the United States relies on police and prisons, challenging the surveillance state, considering rehabilitative and international alternatives, and examining the radical abolitionist demands to dismantle rather than reform the carceral state. Based on 17 video excerpts from the symposium series and additional resources from organizations including Critical Resistance.
