DCC Publishes “Family, Community, and the Carceral State”-Part 6 of the “Documenting and Confronting the Carceral State” Series

Family, Community, and the Carceral State,” created by the Community Organizations Team (Gabrielle French, Allie Goodman, Chloe Carlson, Matt Lassiter), is the sixth research report in the “Documenting and Confronting the Carceral State” series.  These reports draw from the Carceral State Project’s 2018-2019 Symposium Series by combining video excerpts of the panelists with contextual material.

Part 6, “Family, Community, and the Carceral State,” documents the many negative impacts of criminalization and incarceration on families and communities, with a particular focus on the consequences for family members and the plight of racially and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. The report is based on 28 video excerpts from the symposium series and additional research conducted by the student team.
