Laurel Watkins de Jong

I am a graduate student in Kamran Diba’s lab. I joined the lab in the fall of 2012 after completing¬†a Master’s in Neuroscience at the University of Arizona under the direction of Dr. John Allen.

I am generally interested in neural computation, focusing on the mechanisms that underlie the formation and consolidation of memories. Using high-density electrode recordings and optogenetic interventions, I examine how memories are encoded across cell assemblies in the hippocampus and interactions between the hippocampus and neocortex during subsequent consolidation.
