Laurel Watkins de Jong

I am a graduate student in Kamran Diba’s lab. I joined the lab in the fall of 2012 after completing a Master’s in Neuroscience at the University of Arizona under the direction of Dr. John Allen.

I am generally interested in neural computation, focusing on the mechanisms that underlie the formation and consolidation of memories. I use a combination of high-density electrode recordings and optogenetic interventions to examine the interactions between excitatory and inhibitory populations within a hippocampal region and how those interactions shape cellular activity patterns.
