María Isabel Álvarez

María Isabel Álvarez is a first-generation Guatemalan-American writer and educator. Her short fiction has received the Phyllis Grant Zellmer Prize for Fiction and is published in Kenyon Review, Black Warrior Review, and Gulf Coast, among other venues. The recipient of grants and fellowships from The Elizabeth George Foundation, the Speculative Literature Foundation, the Saltonstall Foundation, Yaddo, and Hedgebrook, she lives and teaches in upstate New York and is at work on a collection of short stories.
