Visit to Doukki Gel/Kerma – Narrating Nubia: The Social Lives of Heritage

Visit to Doukki Gel/Kerma

On January 19th, the El-Kurru team and some friends from the Jebel Barkal Archaeological Project visited the nearby Kushite sites of Doukki Gel and Kerma. Most of us had never been to these sites before, and this trip was a great opportunity to meet other teams excavating Kushite sites in Sudan and to see how other sites have organized and designed their museums and visitor experience.

We were very lucky to be at Dokki Gel while members of the Swiss-Franco-Sudanese joint mission were actively excavating the site! Co-Director Dr. Séverine Marchi gave us a tour of the site–thank you again Séverine (far right of first group photo)!
