Agilent 6560

Our lab is equipped with an ion mobility-mass spectrometry instrument in the form of the 6560 IM-Q-ToF instrument (Agilent). This is a new primary instrument used in our labs research.

The Agilent 6560 differs from the Synapt instrumentation. The 6560 has a different instrument schematic where the quadrupole and collision cell are subsequent to IMS seperation. The IMS cell is a 1-meter drift tube, and operates as a uniform field compared to the Synapt travelling wave. Lastly, the 6560 in our lab contains modifications to the source region and the addition of sulfur hexafluoride gas. These modification enable more activating conditions to unfolding large protein complexes.
