A site management plan is being developed in close consultation with the local community and with local authorities including the Jandarma (the Turkish state police) and the Izmir Museum. To date, work on this plan has included interviews with local residents, detailed documentation of the various landscape zones in and around the archaeological site (recording the local geology and flora as well as any modern construction), and preliminary plans for improving security, accessibility, and signage and tourist paths. Conservation assessments of the fortifications, Theater, Bouleuterion, Heroon, and Temple of Athena have been undertaken by Suzanne Davis. The site management and conservation plan is being created by Kathy Velikov, Geoffrey Thün, and Suzanne Davis, with contributions by Karen Toomasian.
