Chang Hsiao-Hung was born on Oct 30th, 1961 in Taipei.[i] She went to study at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, College of Liberal Arts, National Taiwan University,[ii] where she received her bachelor and master’s degree. She later went to the University of Michigan where she received her Ph.D. in English Literature.[iii] Chang is now working at the National Taiwan University as a professor where she focuses her research on the subject of Feminism, Literature and Cultural Studies.[iv] She was also a guest professor at the University of California, Berkley, General Director of the Taiwanese Feminist Scholars Association, Director of the Taiwan Cultural Studies Association, Associated Director at the Comparative Literature Association of the Republic of China.

 

Intellectual Influence

Chang is one of the most influential feminist writers in the Chinese literature world. Chang thrives in bringing sexual equality through her writings. Her representative works including Post Contemporary Women [后现代/女人] (1993), Gender Crossing: Feminist Literature Theory and Criticism [性別越界:女性主義文學理論與批評](1995), etc.[v] Chang’s writtings compose elements of prose, deconstructionism, psychoanalysis, and homosexuality, which helps her presenting her arguments against hegemonism from multiple perspectives.[vi]
