Biography
Born in Macheng City of Hubei province in 1956, Zeng Lingliang was a well-known expert in international law in China.[i]
Read moreGraduated from the English Department at the Wuhan University with a Bachelor degree in 1978, Zeng stayed and worked as a lecturer before he came to the University of Michigan Law School.[ii] In 1986, Zeng graduated from the program and obtained his Latin Legum Magister (L.L.M). One year after, he also received a Master’s Degree in Law from Wuhan University, and a Ph.D. degree in Law there in 1992.[iii] Zeng developed a prosperous career as a law scholar in both China and the world. He was the Dean of School of Law at Macao University from 1997 to 2010, and the Cheung Kong Scholar Professor at Wuhan University, and the Director of Institute of International Law after 2010.[iv] Zeng also visited the European University Institute in Italy, University of Denver, University of Birmingham, City University of Hongkong, and the Chicago Kent College of Law as a visiting scholar, where he established a tenacious bound with the international law community.[v] He died at work on July 8, 2016, at the age of 60.[vi]
Intellectual Influence
Zeng was a leading expert in International Law in China. He was a pioneer for research on WTO Law and the European Union Law in China.[vii]

His representative works include An Overview of EU Law — From the New Perspective of European Constitutional Treaty [欧洲联盟法总论—以《欧洲宪法条约》为新视角], World Trade Organization Law [世界贸易组织法].[viii] At the same time, Zeng has won many honors and awards, such as the 1stPrize in the National Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award, the 2ndPrize in the Second National College Humanities and Social Sciences Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award, the title of National Top Ten Yong and Middle-aged Jurists.[ix]
