Mechanical engineer, business consultant, and novelist–Yongcheng has many titles. The interdisciplinary experience he got while he was at schools and works has greatly benefited his later career as a writer, and make his story more reflective and appealing.

Yongcheng was born and raised in Beijing, but considers himself a native of Shandong, Jinan[i]. He started studying Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1994. He transferred to the University of Michigan in 1995, earning his Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering 1997. He then went to Stanford University on a full scholarship to continue his education in auto mechanical engineering. After graduation, he worked as an engineer. Yongcheng published his first novel in mainland China in 2003. He changed careers to become an international private business investigator and consultant in 2006, rising to become Kroll Greater China’s Deputy Executive Director and continuing to write throughout those years. He started writing his three-part Investigative Division series in 2009, and is continuing to work on the series today.

 

Intellectual Influence

Yongcheng’s mystery and suspense novels are bestsellers in the Chinese-speaking world. They are based on years of business experience in confidential settings involving a network of investigators such as Yong known as “the secret eye of Wall Street.” His writings since 2003, including the recent Investigative Division [Mi Mi Diao Cha Shi] series, have received rave reviews identifying him as a superb emerging novelist. In 2013, the Chinese firm Bona Film bought the rights to film adaptations of six of his works. He is currently working on the much-anticipated continuations of the Investigative Division series.
