In this book chapter, we outline our ideas for how oscillations coordinate the processing and transfer of information across different regions of hippocampal-entorhinal-neocortical interface. We describe the perspective that in each oscillatory cycle, recruitment of principal neurons is temporally protracted and terminated by the buildup of inhibition. In addition to providing a temporal framework in which information can be packaged, oscillatory coupling across networks can facilitate the exchange of information and determine the direction of activity flow
