Nick Henriksen Receives 2021 Linguistic Society of America Award

Nick Henriksen, Associate Professor of Spanish Linguistics

Every year, the Linguistic Society of America (LSA), the leading academic society in the field of linguistics, grants one early-career award to a linguist who has produced outstanding scholarship in linguistics. This year, the distinction goes to Collaboratory member and PI of From Africa to Patagonia, Nick Henriksen.

LSA’s website lauds Henriksen not only for the excellence of his scholarship, but for the impact and reach of his social justice mission.

In the words of the Linguistic Society of America, “this award recognizes the achievements of Dr. Henriksen and underrepresented minorities in linguistics. Dr. Henriksen is an advocate for minorities in linguistics and a member of LSA who embraces core values of the society by conducting community-engaged research, promoting linguistic and cultural awareness, and seeking social justice.”

Recipients were recognized at a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, January 13. Congratulations, Nick!
