Teaching Opportunities

Teaching is one of the best parts of our jobs! If you are looking for summer opportunities to broaden your teaching experience, consider some of the following:

BEAM, Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics, is a New York City Based non-profit organization focused on math enrichment for middle and high school kids in New York and LA. Michigan Math Alumna Ruthi Hortsch is the New York program manager; she’s hired several Michigan Math grads, including most recently, Emilee Cardin. Reach out to ask them more!

Math-Camp  is an enrichment program for super-mathy high school kids, supported in part by the AMS. The Assistant director, Keven Carde is a 2014 UM PhD Alum, who regularly hires Math grads for the summer camp. Reach out!

MMSS, Michigan Math and Science Scholars, is an academic summer camp for high school kids right here in Ann Arbor. They usually hire a few math grads to assist with courses. Recently, for example, current PhD student Alana Huszar worked with 1995 PhD alum Doug Shaw on a graph theory course. You can also ask in the math office about how to apply.

M-Stem Academies. In late summer both LSA and the Engineering school hire Math GSIs to  help incoming freshman gain the skills and mentor-network they need to succeed at UM. Math GSIs are hired every summer to teach prep courses for Math 105/115/116.

Of course, there are other teaching jobs on campus for GSIs, including right here in our own department. Keep an eye out for announcements and of course, ask around!
