Erwin was one of my favorite people on Chene. I cherish my meetings with him and his wife. The Blochs were one of the few Jewish families to live on Chene into the late 1940s. I conducted 6 very extensive interviews with Erwin, both at his home in Royal Oak and at my offices in Ann Arbor. He had a photographic memory and the hard life in the neighborhood was always there just below the surface. His interviews provide real insight into the history of the neighborhood and the relationships between Polish Catholics and Jews. No holds barred. Interviews in January 2003, February 2003, June 2003, December 2003, May 2004 and February 2006.
