John Vandermeer is the Asa Gray Distinguished University Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan. His research interests focus on the ecology of agroecosystems, especially in the tropics where he has been working on tropical rainforest dynamics and ecological complexity in the coffee ecosystem for the past 20 years. He teaches courses in ecology and agroecology. He has authored or edited 15 books and over 200 scientific articles, as well as many popular articles in various venues. He is especially focused on structural aspects of the world food system and the inequality that surrounds it.
