Job Description

The University of Michigan Sustainable Food Systems Initiative (SFSI) is seeking a part-time program coordinator for the 2021-2022 academic year. This position is open to incoming and enrolled graduate students at the University of Michigan.

The University of Michigan Sustainable Food Systems Initiative engages an interdisciplinary mix of students, faculty, and communities at local and global levels to learn from and build food systems that are health-promoting, economically viable, equitable, and ecologically sound.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with course logistics for “Food Literacy for All”
  • Catalog interdisciplinary food systems courses
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of SFSI events such as “Fast Food for Thought”
  • Assist with updating the SFSI website
  • Assist with campus outreach
  • Assist with communications (newsletters, faculty spotlights, reports)
  • Assist with analysis of survey data

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant training and/or experience related to sustainable food systems
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Fluency with wordpress
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish rapport with diverse groups
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Proficient in oral and written English
  • Able to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively

The position is expected to be 10 hours per week for the 2021-2022 academic school year, and will begin as soon as the position is filled. The SFSI coordinator will report directly to Lilly Fink Shapiro, Program Manager, SFSI.
