Spanish Speaking Student Research Position (2016-17)

GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION
Fall 2016 and Winter 2017

A graduate student research assistant for the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 Academic Terms is being sought to assist with the implementation of a research study in the rural highlands of Peru examining linkages between agricultural biodiversity, market access, and the quality and diversity of diets of smallholder farming households.

The research assistant will be expected to:

  • Assist with the preparation of a multi-topic household survey instrument, with an emphasis on developing a quantitative dietary assessment tool;
  • Develop a manual for training survey enumerators in the use of the survey instrument;
  • Manage project administrative and logistical issues;
  • Liaise with Peruvian colleagues to assist with management of a cloud-based data repository and tablet-based questionnaire interface;
  • Meet regularly via videoconference with project staff in Peru, and with other investigators to coordinate project activities;
  • Travel to Peru to assist with enumerator training, supervise data collection and quality control efforts, and assist with data analysis.peruRequired qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience conducting public health nutrition related research;
  • Experience developing and using survey-based dietary assessment tools;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a cross-culturally sensitive manner as part of an interdisciplinary research team with international collaborators;
  • Experience conducting research or implementing programs in low- or middle-income country settings;
  • Fluency or advanced language skills in Spanish;
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills;
  • Experience supervising research staff and/or using tablet-based software to design and implement surveys strongly desired.

The position is 10-15 hours per week, during both the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 Terms, and can begin immediately. Funding for travel to Peru (but not for living expenses) is also available. The position can be aligned with the MPH Internship requirements.
