In this lecture, Jessica Holmes engaged with the audience in an in-depth discussion of food deserts, food politics, and relevant policies. Holmes presented an overview of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the potential impact of recent proposals on food insecure families. She discussed the impact of poverty on one’s overall health and life expectancy, as well as the challenge of meeting Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in an era of a stagnant minimum wage.
