While many colleges and universities can boast of their neoclassical architecture and art, very few can offer its visitors the chance to see actual Greek (as well as Egyptian) texts written in some cases over 2,000 years ago. The University of Michigan Papyrology Collection is one of the most prestigious collections of ancient manuscripts in the world. In fact, with an inventory of over 7,000 and approximately 17,000 individual fragments dating from 1000 BCE to 1000 CE, the U-M collection is the largest in North America and ranks among the largest worldwide.
